Richard Miers - Creative Director
Richard Miers boasts over 28 years of experience designing and overseeing the build of gardens, both in the UK and abroad. His diverse portfolio includes projects such as an RHS Chelsea Flower Show Main Avenue garden, a dacha in Moscow, a villa in Sardinia, and numerous town gardens and roof terraces in London. Notable projects also encompass a 15-acre garden for a new build Palladian mansion in Surrey, and country gardens for Grade 1 listed houses in Norfolk and Buckinghamshire. His work has earned him multiple awards, including The People’s Choice Award at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022 and Best Show Garden at Suzhou Flower Show 2024.
Recognised as one of the 20 Finest Gardeners & Landscape Designers by Country & Townhouse Magazine in 2022 and 2023, Richard was also listed as one of the top ten up-and-coming garden designers by House and Garden Magazine in February 2011. His accolades extend to designing a show garden for The Daily Telegraph/House and Garden Fair in 2007 and representing the United Kingdom in the Gardening World Cup in Nagasaki, Japan, in 2012 with his garden ‘Serenity’. Additionally, he was invited by House and Garden Magazine to feature a garden at their festival at Olympia in 2017.
Richard’s designs are characterised by a finely balanced blend of exquisite planting design and landscaping, embodying a classically contemporary style with a focus on proportion and geometric elements. He favours incorporating structure into his designs using features like hedges, walls, paths, terraces, and water elements, which serve to divide the garden into manageable areas, provide shelter, and create framed views. These structural elements are complemented by bulbs, herbaceous flowers, shrubs, and roses to soften the overall aesthetic and add seasonal interest. Central to Richard’s design ethos is a commitment to balance, proportion, and scale. His gardens are conceived as collaborative endeavours, with effective teamwork and communication being paramount in translating ideas to clients and contractors. As Richard says himself:
‘Good garden design is all about teamwork and communication. Translating ideas coherently to both client, contractor and other professionals is key.’
